Top 4 Wide Body and Shaped Slalom Water Skis

by Julie Bostian
for About.com

Wide body and shaped water skis have been rapidly gaining in popularity for both beginner and experienced water-skiers. These types of skis are wider than traditional skis and are ideal for first-time water-skiers. Shaped and wide body skis make deepwater starts and turns easier while skiing at 22-28 mph.

1. Connelly Pilot

The sidecut design helps the ski turn with little effort while skiing at 28 mph or under.

2. HO Rival

The deep-V bottom design is a stabilizer whether the ski is flat or cutting through the water. Best performance at boat speeds between 24 and 32 mph.

3. O'Brien Freerunner

Extra wide forebody for easy deepwater starts and a conical tunnel to channel water straight through to the tail for stability.

4. Connelly Big Daddy

Designed for the larger framed 210 pound skier who still likes to tear it up carving through the water.
