The men's slalom final could not have been a more fitting end for Mapple, the greatest water-skier in the sport's history, who announced before the event that this would be his last professional competition.
How He Won
Mapple, the World Record holder at the time in men's slalom, battled it out in a runoff with co-World Record holder Jamie Beauchesne. Both men were tied after the finals round with 2 @ 41, but it was Mapple who took home the victory in the runoff with another run of 2 @ 41 off while Beauchesne was not able to finish his 39 1/2 off pass.
Two Decades of Wins
For the 41-year-old Mapple it was the 166th victory of his career, which has spanned more than two decades, most of which Mapple was on top of the sport. The final was almost a three-way runoff with Chris Rossi just missing the runoff with a score of 1 @ 41.
