Dallas was a gymnastics competitor for five years and got burned out on the sport. In 1999 her brother introduced her to wakeboarding and from that point on she was finished with gymnastics. She began competing on the tour in April 2000 at age 13.

Her father grew up in the small town of Dallas, North Carolina. That's where the name Dallas comes from.
