In today's electronic era we often rely on the Internet for information and forget about printed publications. There are, however, some good books available which teach skills in waterskiing, offer inspiration in reaching new goals, and tell the history of the sport.
Here, I've chosen some of the best for you but keep in mind the photos in some of the instructional books date themselves because many were written more than 10 years ago. Nonetheless, the content for the most part remains undated and applies to waterskiing as we know it today.
By Mark Soloman. This is a great book introducing the sport of waterskiing but it also addresses more advanced skills for both the skier as well as the boat driver.
By
Kristi Overton Johnson, who is a retired world record holding slalom water-skier. In this hardcover book filled with photos, Kristi shares how her spiritual life has played an instrumental part in her training, competing on the slalom course, and in her daily walk of life.
By Jack Travers, a waterskiing coach known around the world. Jack starts with the basics and uses photo sequences to teach skills. He also addresses more advanced techniques in slalom, tricks, jumping, barefoot skiing, and also lends advice to boat drivers on how to properly tow a skier.
By Camille Duvall, a five-time world professional slalom champion. This book talks to the beginner for the basics and also the more experienced skier for fine-tuning their skills. In addition to chapters on equipment, Camille also addresses the boat and driver as well installing a slalom course.
A great pictorial of waterskiing history, this book captures the sport from the early days. You'll love looking at the pictures in this book authored by Kevin Desmond and the forward by Patrice Martin, who has held many trick waterskiing records.
With more than 80 color photos, this book introduces waterskiing and outlines how the sport has changed since it started in 1922.
