A Solid Price Point for Serious Wakeboarders

It seems that boat purchases go in a logical order. When we first get into watersports we might be a little skeptical and might allocate a budget of around 5k to 10k for a nice old inboard. Then as the fever sets in, we realize that we want to progress our riding and get a bigger and better boat.

The next wakeboard boat price point is $25K and under. This price tier puts you in a completely different class of wakeboard boat and will get you more premium features than the older budget-friendly models. In this class, you will find a boat with a wakeboard tower, V-Drive, ballast tanks, and plenty of other premium features. Listed below are five of the best boats you can buy for 25,000 smackers.

2000 - 2002 Mastercraft X-Star

If you want to own a piece of wakeboarding history, then look no further than an early model X-Star. This is the boat that changed the face of wakeboarding forever. Although, the X-Star originally came out in 1996, it wasn’t until 2000 or so that they started to perfect them. For around 25K you can pick up an early X-Star complete with tower, premium audio, and ballast system. In this price range, look for a boat in the range of 450 to 650 hours and always ask the previous owner for maintenance records.

2000 - 2002 Correct Craft Air Nautique 210

About the same time, Mastercraft released the X-Star, Correct Craft came out with their Air Nautique series, designed specifically for wakeboarders. Since their inception, both the Mastercraft X series and Air Nautique series have been vying for the king of wake position, but let’s face it — both boats are legendary so the point is moot. The Correct Craft will generally feature a few more creature comforts but look for them to be a little higher on the 25k price spectrum.

2001 - 2004 Centurion Elite V

Centurion, in my opinion, has always offered the best value for the money. These boats are workhorses and are often built to higher engineering specs than their competition. Still, these boats are typically a few years behind when it comes to bells and whistles. And just as a disclaimer, while Centurion is a rock solid boat, you don’t find that all Centurion owners are as attentive about maintenance as Mastercraft and Correct Craft owners. However, if you are looking for an absolute steal, then focus your attention on the Centurions.

2001-2003 Malibu Wakesetter

Malibu fans are a completely different breed of people. When someone buys a Malibu, they keep it for life. Therefore, it really is a rarity to find a Malibu Wakesetter in this price bracket, especially over here on the east coast. However, deals do emerge from time to time, and when they do, you better snatch them up when the time is right. The Wakesetter is another legendary boat that has contributed a lot to the history of wakeboarding. These are classic boats through and through and even one that needs a little work is a sound investment, provided the price is right.

2001 - 2002 Supra Launch

The number five spot was hard to determine, but at the end of the day I had to go with a company who has been around the block for a long time. Supra released the Launch series solely with Wakeboarders in mind. The 2001 to 2002 models are great boats with a lot of heart. In my opinion these were two of the best years for Supras and will give new owners plenty more riding for years to come.
