Waterskiing In The Olympics For The Next Millennium?

Dateline: 6/30/99

Waterskiing is one step closer to being a sport in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece. A letter was officially submitted on June 23 by the 2004 Olympic Games Organizing Committee to the International Olympic Committee (IOC), asking for the sport of waterskiing be included in the 2004 Olympic Games.

The next step in the process is for the IOC to decide whether or not to include a discussion of the topic to the agenda of the next Executive Board meeting. That meeting will be in Germany in November. If it is placed on the agenda and is approved, the request will be forwarded to the IOC General Session which meets in September of 2000, in Sydney, Australia, just two days before the torch is lit for the 2000 Olympic Games.

Waterskiing is definitely getting closer to being an Olympic sport but much work still has to be done before it is able to reach final approval. Tax deductible donations are being accepted on behalf of the IWSF at the USA Water Ski headquarters.
