Gas Fumes+Bilge+Spark=Explosion

Monday October 4, 2004
In recent weeks, the news has brought reports of at least five instances of boats exploding at or near a gas dock. Aside from this being a horrible way to die, either by burning to death or being knocked, unconscious, into the water to drown, an exploding boat can cripple or maim, as well as rendering the boat itself a total loss. This shouldn't - and doesn't have to - happen to anyone. Read more about this from About.com's Powerboat Guide, Jim Shepard.
